Blogmas Day 12: Reviewing Every Book I read in my Queer Studies Class

Hello and welcome to the twelfth day of blogmas! Or in other words, the final day of blogmas! I just want to take a moment to thank all of you who joined me on this journey. Writing a blog post every day for twelve days was a lot of work, and definitely something I won’t be doing again anytime soon, but it was really fun for me, so I thank you for sticking around and reading them!

As I introduced yesterday, in my Fall 2021 semester I took two different English classes, and thus read a lot of books for class. One of these classes was a course on the Harlem Renaissance, and I reviewed all the books I read for that class on my post yesterday. Today, I am reviewing all the books I read for my queer studies class. The full title of the class was actually “Rainbow Republic: American Queer Culture from Walt Whitman to Lady Gaga” but that’s a bit of a mouthful.

I read a total of seven books for this class, to varying degrees of my enjoyment. Below, I review all of them.

Blogmas Day 11: Reviewing Every Book I read in my Harlem Renaissance Class

Welcome back to the eleventh day of blogmas! I am so happy to have you here for my book reviews today.

I briefly mentioned a few times that I did a lot of reading for school this semester. That’s because I was taking two English classes this semester! (Something I am never doing again by the way, there’s a reason I’m not an English major). So for the last two days of blogmas I am going to take the time to review all of the books I read in those two classes. Today I am going to cover all the books I read for my Harlem Renaissance class.

As a quick note, in case you aren’t familiar, the Harlem Renaissance covers a period roughly from 1917 to 1935 where there was a renewed interest in African-American art. During that time, there was an incredible amount of paintings, books, music, and other art being created. Moreover, it was becoming more widespread. Since I took an English class on the Renaissance, we focused mostly on the literature of the time period. We read lots of poems and excerpts of books for class, as well as six full books.

Blogmas Day 10: January TBR

Good evening! Thanks for stopping by the blog today for day ten of blogmas! Only a few days left and then I can have a blogging break (whew!). Today, I am sharing my January TBR. I was going to layout some of the books on my tbr for the year (that aren’t 2022 releases), but I quickly realized that I only had the first few months or so. So instead, I am just focusing on January.

I am on break right now, which means a few different things for my reading plan. For one, it means that I have extra time, so I am hoping to read 15 books total this month. It also means that I am currently at home and have access to my bookshelves. Thus, I’m hoping to plow through some of the books on my physical tbr this month. Blogmas Day 8: 2022 Reading Goals

Blogmas Day 7: 2021 Reading Wrap-Up

Welcome to day seven of blogmas, and my first blog post of 2022! Today, I am sharing all of my reading stats from 2021, and checking if I met my 2021 reading goals.

I read a total of 149 books this year, averaging 12.4 books a month. 40 of those books were audiobooks, and 8 of them were re-reads. In addition, I DNFed 7 books. According to Goodreads, the average length of my books this year was 318 pages, and my average rating was 3.7 stars.

Blogmas Day 6: November and December Wrap-Up

Happy New Year! I am on the West coast of the United States, so technically it is still December 31st, and thus this is indeed day six of blogmas. Originally, I was going to use this day as an end-of-year wrap up. But since I never did a November wrap-up, and I read so many great books in November and December, I thought I would use today to do it instead.

Like I said, I read a lot of great books the last two months. The only books I felt mediocre about were ones that I had to read for class. I read a total of eight books in November, and eight in December. Six of those were for school, so ten of them were for fun. Some of my favorites and almost favorites of the year came from the last two months, like Emma and The Lady’s Guide to Celestial Mechanics. I also read some great YA books just in the past week that I loved, including Layoverland and Cemetery Boys. Keep reading under the cut for the full list of books I read the last two months!

Blogmas Day 5: Top Ten Books of 2021

Welcome to day five of blogmas! Before I get started I wanted to give an extra special birthday shoutout to Katharine, my incredibly smart, kind, and generous friend who has been such a huge supporter of my book blogging endeavors. I love you so much! Happy Birthday! I hope this next year brings everything you could wish for.

Today is a traditional end-of-year post: my top ten favorite books that I read in 2021! These are all books that I read for the first time in 2021 (no re-reads included), and they are all books that I rated five stars. They are my absolute favorites of the year, the ones that really stuck with me and meant a lot to me.

Blogmas Day 4: Least Favorite Books of 2021

Welcome to day four of blogmas! We are nearing the end of the year, which means wrap-ups of favorite and least favorite books. Today, I am covering my five least favorite books that I read in 2021.

In general, I like to be positive about books. But lets be real, there are some books that I just cannot be positive about. Plus, it can be a little fun sometimes. Definitely no shade to you if you did like any of these books, everyone has different tastes. It just so happens that these do not fit my taste. Unlike previous posts, where I listed books in the order that I read them, these are listed by preference, with my absolute least favorite of the year being number 1. Let’s get down to it!

Blogmas Day 3: Almost Favorite Books

Hello and welcome to day 3 of blogmas! I am coming to you a little late in the day today, because I spent the day getting my booster shot, and then spending time with my family. Today, I am sharing some of my almost favorite books from 2021. 

I first saw this idea of “almost favorites” on The Book Place applied to authors. However, I am switching up the idea a bit.

When you read so many books in a year, you are bound to read lots of books that you enjoy, but for whatever reason, fall a bit short and don’t get on the favorites list. But these books are still so great and absolutely deserve to be read, so I wanted to take the time to highlight some of these almost favorite books! These are all books that I really loved, but for whatever reason, didn’t quite make the favorites cut.
